Plungers Among Us...

If you've been following along with our winter training runs and race schedule it goes without saying that everyone at HATR is a little bit crazy but two members of the group raised the bar for the rest of us yesterday when they took part in the 16th annual Special Olympics New Jersey Polar Bear Plunge held in Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

Congratulations goes out to our own Charlie Mann and Frank Sconzo!

If you're interested in sponsoring one or both of these lunatics, online donations will be accepted until March 31st! Click on the links below to go to their respective donations pages:

There is also a great video clip that Frank took as he ran into the ocean with his waterproof camera available here.

If anyone is interested, or crazy enough, in attempting this next year let me know. We won't be organizing a team or anything but I just want to know who you are so I can keep an eye on you. Clearly, you're not of sound mind and the last thing the rest of us should be doing is taking long runs on secluded trails with you!

  2. Anyone interested in plunging next year is more than welcome to join our team: Gold's Gym Karate Club.
The team rented hotel rooms at the Aztec, as well as a hospitality room with catered food and beverages this year. It's literally a 30 second walk from the rooms to the plunge area.
Just visit http://goplunge.com and click on "My Team Page" to get to the team site.
And for the runners among us, I started a new tradition this year - a run on the boardwalk followed by a "Rocky and Apollo" finish on the beach to get in the spirit of things before the plunge.
    See you next year!
