Friggin' Freezing...

The National Weather Service had the temperature listed at a whopping 4◦, Shoreturtle's Toyota had it at 7◦ but one look at the picture of Paul below, taken by flyers26, will tell you all you need to know regardless of the readings...it was friggin' freezing!!!

In what was easily the coldest trail run we've EVER had, 8 brave warriors battled the elements this morning and made it out to the dam and back once again. This time taking a mix of trails and bike path straight out to the dam, keeping warm with a couple of hill sprints, and then picking up the infamous twirly bird on the way back in. Major props to all who turned out today despite the cold.

One of the most challenging things about running in these temps, aside from the obvious, is getting dressed properly. The natural tendency is to overdress, which is exactly what I did today and I paid the price for it on the way back from the dam. Others got it right and had a much more enjoyable day. Still, I have to say that even a bad day running with the group beats a good day doing most other things.

Next weekend, we're heading out to Reading, PA for Chilly Cheeks on Sunday so we'll take a break from the normal Sat morning group run on 1/24 and pick it back up on 1/31. Stay tuned for details on carpooling and meet-up locations for those of you heading out to Reading.

Roll call: Bill S., Bill Y., Butch, Charlie, Diana, Nate, Paul, and Tom

  4. You forgot one other brave warrior....Cassi (aka Bolt), she had frozen whiskers and a scraped pad by the end, but enjoyed herself as always! Although being a Eskimo I think the temps didn't phase her.

  5. OMG...that's right! How can I forget about our four legged friend. We're gonna have to get a pic of her the next time out.

  6. Hi all - I've been emailing a little bit with Bill (I "know" him from his blog) and he suggested I check out this group since I'm trying to train for the NJ Marathon and I'd love to find a local running group - I live in Mercerville in a very busy section and have a hard time figuring out good routes that don't involve crossing highways or exit ramps or crazy intersections! I'd love to join you on 1/31 if you're open to a new member...?!

  8. Thanks Hurley! So Saturday 1/31 at 7:30 in Mercer County Park? Where exactly do you all meet?

Also my hubby and I might take turns joining you on these runs. We have a toddler and no sitters in the area (and really who's going to come sit at 7 am on a Saturday??), so we will have to trade off.
