The weather forecast for Saturday called for the season's first major snowstorm. When I woke up at 6am there wasn't a flake to be seen but just 45 minutes later when I arrived at the park it was a completely different story. The snow had begun to fall and was quickly starting to cover the ground. By the time we took off it was a full on snow storm we were running through.
We headed up the bike path and jumped right into the trails which provided a welcome escape from the wind. It was up through the back of the tennis courts, past the boat house, out through twirly bird and then eventually reaching that path that led to the dam, where we were met with a brutal wind coming off the lake, slamming snow right in our faces. There was no way we were taking that path back so we ducked down in the trail at the bottom of the hill and made our best attempt to escape the elements. At this point, the weather was getting worse by the minute and we continued to try to find paths back to the parking lot where we weren't running head on into the wind. By the time we reached the parking lot the snow had blanketed everything including us.
Before we all hurried into our cars to defrost, however, there was some business to take care of first. Once again, so many of the HATRs answered the call and brought with them a toy donation for Marine Toys for Tots and in doing so qualified themselves for a chance to win the $25 gift certificate to RoadRunner Sports. Congratulations to Charlie for winning the prize!
